Brexit Cookbook

“Dinner for the International Nationalist” is a project that seeks to bridge cultures, promote understanding, and celebrate the rich tapestry of global and British cuisine. Through creative collaboration with illustrator Isobel Bacon, this project combines graphic design, brush pen illustration, and macro photography to tell its story.

Prompted by the divisiveness caused by the Brexit vote in the UK, this project seeks to combat ignorance and hate by promoting inclusivity and cultural appreciation.

This book challenges the notion of "British" traditional recipes by shedding light on their diverse origins. It's a reminder that the culinary landscape is an ever-evolving mosaic, shaped by the contributions of cultures from around the world. For example, the iconic chicken tikka masala, often considered Britain's national dish, showcases how Britain adapts to external influences, as illustrated by ingredient origin maps.

This book champions the idea that a multicultural world benefits everyone. Patriotism, as celebrated in this project, is a love for the people and the land, transcending the confines of race and religion. It is a recognition of our varied culinary heritage and stands as a testament to the beauty of cultural exchange.

"Dinner for the International Nationalist" invites viewers to explore the origins of ingredients, and appreciate the richness that emerges when cultures come together in the kitchen.
